My name is Christer Forsman and I currently work as Sales Manager at Finnair Cargo.
I started working for Finnair in June of 1969 as a “mail boy” and moved over to what I called the “Royal Finnair Cargo department” in 1970. I like to tell people that I started working at Finnair before the man conquered the moon and the famous phrase "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" was coined.
Finnair, like the world around it, has gone through huge changes since the late 1960s. The most visible changes, of course, have to do with our fleet. When I started at Finnair, we still used Convair, Metropolitan and Caravelle aircraft, as well as two DC-8 planes. Today our fleet mainly consists of modern Airbus aircraft: Finnair Cargo fleet
Our daily routines at the office have changed as well; typewriting and manual processes have given way to IT-based solutions. One thing that hasn't changed, however, is that the business is still conducted by, and made for, people.
