Sixth Earth Hour in 147 countries

Earth Hour celebrated again on 31 March around the world

The Earth Hour was celebrated again on Saturday, 31 March 2012 at 8.30pm local time in each participating location around the world.

Finnair took part in the event by reducing the lighting of its buildings at Helsinki airport during the weekend. In addition to participating in this event annually, Finnair works continuously to reduce energy consumption levels of its facilities in order to reach the energy reduction target of 9% from the year 2007 level by 2016. (For aircraft emission reduction target please see: Measures for cleaner air)

In Helsinki the local electricity company, Helsingin Energia, informed that this year the Earth Hour saved 1000 kWh (ie. 1 MWh) of energy in Helsinki area. This corresponds to the electricity consumption of a one-room flat for an entire year.
